How do I choose a display name and can I change it?

The name you choose is up to you, provided you do not impersonate anyone or use offensive language. Some commenters use their real names, others choose a display name to maintain anonymity.

Should you choose a display name, we recommend that you choose a distinct one. If it transpires that you have chosen the same display name as someone else, an FT administrator may email you to inform you and require you to change your name. Using offensive language in your display name may lead to a temporary ban until your display name is changed. Do note that all comments made under a display name can be tracked back to your FT.com account.

To change your display name, click the ‘edit’ button beside your display name. Your display name will be approved if it is not already used by another account. Please note that all of your previous comments will be updated to reflect the new display name.
