My card or payment hasn’t been authorised. Why is this?
When paying by credit card we check with our payment processor that the credit card number, CVV number (3 or 4 digit code on the back of the card), your name and address match the details that your card issuing bank has and to make sure the card is still valid.
On some occasions we are told that the card details are not correct or the card is not valid and this will result in a failed authorisation. If this happens, please check you have typed the card details correctly. You can check your card details via My Account:
- Click ‘Manage your billing details’ in the Subscription box
- This will bring up information about your payments, under ‘Payment details’ you can edit your card details
If the problem continues to persist, please contact your bank for an explanation as to why your card is not being authorised.
As an alternative, when subscribing to FT.com you can choose to pay by PayPal where you can either pay by credit/debit card or directly from your bank account.
If you’re still experiencing an issue please call our Customer Care team.
